KB30110016 Enterprise hub returns 401 error when configured with Integrated Authentication

Affected systems Windows 2003 Server with IIS 6 and 7

Problem Description After enabling Windows Integrated Authentication to the Eneterpise hub, client browsers return a 401 error. When specifying the URL to the hub with the full DNS name. e.g. http:\\<hostname>/piabws.

When you have ‘Enable Windows Authentication* ‘ checked (in browser advanced settings). With it checked it will always try Kerberos Authentication first which can fail if it isnt configured correctly. With it unchecked it will not try and negotiate via kerberos but go straight to NTLM.

The specific detail of the problem is covered in this technet article http:\\www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/WindowsServer2003/Library/IIS/523ae943-5e6a-4200-9103-9808baa00157.mspx?mfr=true

Two options are available

  1. Use the IP address in the URL to the hub
  2. Disable 'Enable Integrated Windows Authentication*' in the advanced settigns of your IE browser
