P2ABC

PRINCE2 has been more extensively applied and in particular to smaller projects than was envisaged when the method was developed.  A key part of PRINCE2 is the concept of scalability which states that the PM should tailor the Complete Methodology to match the needs of their project by merging and removing management products or adding additional business processes as required.

Most organisations who adopt PRINCE2 do so to establish a consistent project management process, however when each project manager then tailors the method to match the needs of their particular small project this consistency is lost as they all make different choices about which parts of the method to use.

P2ABC helps you address these issues by providing pre-scaled versions of PRINCE2 to suit your typical small, medium and large project environments.  Project Managers can still tailor each of these methods to match the precise needs of their project but the action of tailoring from a closer starting point helps maintain consisency and reduce the time and cost associated with traditional tailoring.

Using P2ABC as the PRINCE2 Standard

P2ABC was developed by the team at PROJECT in a box and provided in response to customer requests for us to recommend some lighter implementations of PRINCE2.  Originally users paid extra to use P2ABC but we quickly found that over 90% of our clients were including P2ABC and that it was being used more than the default PRINCE2 method so we decided to include it as standard.

P2ABC allows you to apply a more appropriate structured PRINCE2 approach to your smaller, less risky projects whilst still retaining the ability to apply the full method to your large projects.  We also provide a method picker tool to help guide your project managers to which method is right for each particular project, something often missed on scaled approaches.

As well as running these different project types side by side in the same system you can also combine them within the Portfolio reporting structure.  This means you can reflect reality in your reporting by having aprogramme or custom reporting portfolio which includes projects of all different sizes, just like in real life.

What's more with P2ABC you can take these standard methods and make them your own customising them to match your language, existing styling and form contents etc.  You can even create multiples of them and it isn't uncommon for clients to have four or five default methods to support their organisations portfolio of projects, each one matched to a typical type or scale of project they deliver.  This sees the methods evolve and develop with the organisation ensuring it always remains fit for purpose.
