PRINCE2™ Projects with control and freedom


It sounds to good to be true but a Manager client provides you with both control and freedom in delivering your PRINCE2™ projects, in fact with any methodology your organisation cares to adopt.

Control comes from security, permissions models, configuration management and audit trail which is easy to use and freedom comes from the ability to use your preferred set of tools and the ability to tailor the methodology to match the needs of your project.


Your Manager licence provides you with the full set of project working tools, administration capability and reporting tools.  A permissions model controls which of these features you can exercise and on which projects you can apply them.  You will be able to monitor your projects and see which team members are working on which parts and what they have been doing, you can also review and approve their work.  No more having to act as the project librarian now your team can get access to project documents under the permissions you granted to them.


Getting and using your client couldn't be easier, all you need is a browser and a web connection to the server to pull down and install the client.  Your client software connects to the server  using web services and this means it can run on a company intranet, extranet or over the web enabling you to share access with whoever you want according to your organisation's security policies.  With PROJECT in a box you own the software so you can continue to use it as long as you want.  

As with all PROJECT in a box software document management is at the core of your project processes.  Not only are you provided with loads of helpful templates but all your version control and configuration management is done for you and an audit trail is created.  No need to learn loads of new tools you can continue to use Word, Excel, MS Project, Visio and all the other products you have already invested your time and effort in.

A clear and simple permissions model controls access to project documents and with an admin account you will be able to add new users, create projects and grant users permissions to work on projects.  With an Admin account or as the PM on a project you will also be able to view the audit trail logs of other users to see if they have been doing the work you expected as well as manage their access permissions to your project.

Communicating with your team and stakeholders will be essential for successful delivery of your project which is why our Outlook2003 integration features are highly valued by users.  You can send email, tasks and appointments directly from the system and attach files from your project to enable other users to contribute to your project.  What's more you can easily check in files returned to you by outlook with the toolbar or by drag and drop.

Create and share a range of Highlight, Project, Portfolio and audit reports on your projects.  You can even customise the style and some elements of content to bring them into line with corporate styles.  Reports can include custom content created by you and stored in spreadsheets in the project as well as standard content from logs and MSProject2003 or 2007 plans, doing the job of collating existing sources for you.

PROJECT in a box contains authentic PRINCE2™ materials including templates and diagrams provided under licence from OGC to make it easy to use for PMs with formal PRINCE2™ training.  We also provide our highly popular P2ABC lighter PRINCE2™ methods which are suited to your smaller and mid size projects.  As the Project Manager you can tailor each project after it is created from a standard method template to match the particular circumstances required.

PROJECT in a box provides context sensitive software help and can also be extended to add the very popular P2 Guidance Module if additional PRINCE2™ guidance is required.

You are provided with a range of user settings to personalise your use of the software.  As you become more confident and capable with PRINCE2™ you can even tailor the standard methods provided to better match the requirements of your particular projects (subject to permissions.  These changes are made at the server and then apply to all projects of the same type created from that point forward.  This level of functionality has traditionally only been associated with the largest and most sophisticated of project management systems, now you can apply it to your projects as well.

Your manager licence allows you integrate with other business systems by setting up the autocheckin of data files produced by Finance, HR or other systems.  With your manager licence you can also set up watches on key documents in your project and will then be emailed to let you know when these are modified or if they aren't updated by a date you set.

Our excellent technical support package including email, phone and remote assistance is included free for the first year (three months only on Personal Version) so you can concentrate on managing your projects not your software!

Features

The Manager Licence provides the entire feature set available from the PROJECT in a box client but it is likely that your team members will not require some of this if they are simply contributing to existing projects.  In these cases the Team licence is more appropriate and also less expensive.

Deployment

Your Manager licences can be allocated and reallocated between your users by an administrator to allow you maximum benefit from the licences you have purchased.  As the licence information is held on your server the clients can be used in many different ways:

  • Installed for long term frequent use on a desktop PC;
  • Pulled down from the server and installed for single use on a colleagues or meeting room PC while answering a particular question or for a meeting;
  • Operated from a portable data device such as a USB stick which enables you to carry all your files with you and connect from any PC with web access back to your server.

Supporting Project Migration from the Community Edition

We know that many of our Community Edition users upgrade to PROJECT in a box to take advantage of the additional benefits, in particular sharing their projects with their colleagues, and want to transfer their existing projects with them.

To help with this we provide a Data Tool utility which is available from the customers Download Centre.  The Data Tool lets the user migrate their projects from Community Edition to PROJECT in a box and between different PROJECT in a box servers.
